Course Introduction
Microbiology is a rapidly evolving scientific discipline which involves the study of living organisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi etc.. Microorganisms affect all aspects of our lives. This subject is of immediate and growing importance, amidst the current scenario of pandemics like COVID, H1N1 and AIDS.
P.G.M. College, Kangazha, a well renowned college in the self-financing sector, is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
Post graduate Department of Microbiology was established in the year 2005, along with the inception of the college. The department aims to become a globally recognized center of learning, by imparting advanced knowledge in the field Microbiology to our students.
Eligibility
Graduation in Biological Sciences viz, Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Biological Techniques & Specimen Preparation and Microbiology or under Chemistry Part III (Main/Core + Subsidiary/ Complementary) or Medical Microbiology /MLT with not less than 50% marks.
MBBS/ B Tech degree holders can also apply

Activities
Student associations are actively engaged in both scientific and social programs. Associations have conducted many out-reach programs, flash mobs, street plays and awareness programs in general community.
Sports meets, cultural fests, student clubs, training and internship programs, industrial and institutional visits are conducted every year to enrich the learning experience of the students.
Facilities
The department has post graduate and undergraduate teaching and research labs equipped with the most modern instruments. Students are given training in Molecular Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, Food and Water testing, Quality analysis, Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Immunology.
